Steve Treseler’s In Motion features flexible personal and instrumentation playing lyrical and interactive modern jazz.

October 20th and January 19th features trumpeter, composer, and educator Kevin Woods, who lives in Bellingham where he serves as director of jazz studies at Western Washington University. Woods has been featured in both DownBeat and Jazziz magazines, and his debut album Ballad of the West received high praise and airplay on jazz radio stations throughout North America and Europe. Kevin is a Yamaha Performing Artist. Treseler and Woods seem to communicate telepathically, with a great sense of élan, curiosity, and vitality. The quartet features Tony LeFaive on bass and Remy Morritt on drums.

Opening band: Garfield HS Jazz II. Garfield is a public high school in Seattle and attracts students from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Garfield’s jazz culture has been built over 40 years and remains strong to this day. Garfield Jazz has over 80 students enrolled in the program in three levels of ensembles. Students learn the great jazz traditions including Duke Ellington Count Basie, as well as a variety of other jazz styles. Garfield jazz bands 1 and 2 are directed by Jared Sessink.

Garfield is a frequent participant in the Essentially Ellington National Jazz Band Competition and Festival at Lincoln Center in New York City, bringing home an unprecedented four first-place trophies.
