Pacific Music Institute Jazz Intensive
Pacific Music Institute announces its summer 2022 program to return back to in-person classes at the spacious Hawaii Convention Center July 17-24 For over 30 years, PMI has defined premier musical experiences for young musicians. The Hawaii Youth Symphony brings together some of the world’s brightest and most celebrated artist faculty. Beyond symphonic music, our programs have expanded to include the Jazz Intensive led by Dean Taba, the Solo & String Quartet program led by Iggy Jang, and the Ukulele Workshop led by Jake Shimabukuro. The universal joy of music connects us all, and there is a place for everyone at PMI. Broaden your musical horizon with us this summer and help keep music a vibrant part of our communities. Have a safe rest of the school year and we look forward to seeing you this summer! The director of HYS Jazz, Dean Taba, along with notable session musicians and local legends provide the highest quality jazz education. Special guest faculty includes Steve Treseler. The daily Jam Session (11am-12pm) is an optional activity open to all participating Jazz Intensive students from either band. It is an informal rehearsal lead by Dean Taba wherein students practice improvising together on various jazz standards or songs being played in either Jazz Intensive ensemble. No jazz experience required! Students will be placed in either Jazz 1 or 2 based on level of experience and instrumentation needs.
